Obitcheery | Lien Foundation

“Obitcheery” is one of many meaningful initiatives led by the Lien Foundation, a Singapore philanthropic house noted for its brand of radical philanthropy.

In its mission to advance eldercare, the Foundation advocates better care for the dying. One of its flagship programmes, the Life Before Death initiative, was first conceived in 2006 to create greater public awareness about end-of-life issues in Singapore. With innovative and collaborative solutions, it seeks to de-stigmatise death and dying by spurring various ‘die-logues’ through the use of social media, art, design, film, photography and research. Novel ideas like the “Happy Coffins” and “Last Outfit” are examples of efforts to break death’s taboo by challenging social norms.

The Foundation has partnered with Mandate Advertising International in coming up with innovative and collaborative solutions to breaking the ‘norms’ of death notices and in memoriams. And thus Obitcheery was born.

Its purpose is to help de-stigmatise death, alter mind-sets and encourage greater creativity when remembering a loved one or someone special who has passed on; to celebrate life rather than mourn the loss of it - for each of us is unique and so deserve to be remembered differently.

Obitcheery consists of various showcases, information, and activities with which the public can engage and interact – with a view to inspiring more joyful and original remembrances.

Choose to celebrate life. Break convention.

Remember Life Differently.
